City of Lawton unveils new online bill pay system

From staff reports The City of Lawton will launch a “new and improved” Online Bill Pay system, designed to make paying bills faster and more convenient, on Thursday, March 20. The upgrade is expected to provide a streamlined experience for users, ensuring greater ease and security in managing accounts.

There will be a brief downtime during the system transition, city officials said. Starting March 18 at 4 p.m., the current online bill pay system will be unavailable. The new system will go live on March 20 and payments will be fully functional again at that time.

During the system downtime, the city will not be able to accept card payments (credit or debit) at its office or drive-thru. The only payments that will be accepted during that period will be via cash, check, or money order. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” Revenue Supervisor Heidi Thomason said.

Customers who are enrolled in autopay need not worry – those payments will automatically switch over to the new system without any action required on your part. “There should be no disruptions or issues during this transition,” Thomason said.

Customers who are paying their bills online should note that a new payment portal will be available. “You will need to visit the new portal to complete your payments,” Thomason said. As part of this upgrade, all users will be required to set a new password for their online account for enhanced security.

After the new system goes live March 20, “We will offer a variety of new payment options, including PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, in addition to credit and debit card payments. These options are designed to make paying your bill even more convenient,” Thomason said.

Paymentus, the new payment provider, will have a 24/7 customer service line available after the new system goes live.
