From staff reports LAWTON – The city’s annual Trash Off is set for Saturday, April 5.
Held in support of the Kids First initiative, the event will take place in the parking lot of the McMahon Memorial Auditorium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and provides residents with the opportunity to dispose of bulky or environmentally dangerous items that shouldn’t be thrown away with regular trash.
Residents are encouraged to bring used oil, batteries, tires (no larger than truck size), scrap metal, appliances, fire extinguishers, paint, and various other items that require special disposal.
The following items will not be accepted: medical and hazardous waste, ammunition, compressed gas cylinders, tires with rims, and commercial waste.
The Trash Off event is free for Lawton residents. To qualify for free entry, participants must provide proof of a Lawton address using either a government-issued ID, a City of Lawton utility bill, or an active military ID. Those who live outside of Lawton will be charged a $25 fee, payable by cash or check.
Trash Off is sponsored by the City of Lawton in partnership with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority.
