MEDICINE PARK – People who are interested in serving on the Medicine Park Board of Trustees must file a declaration of candidacy with the Comanche County Election Board by Oct. 8, a little more than a month before a special election to fill two vacant slots on the board.
Candidates must be residents of Medicine Park and be registered to vote there for at least six months before filing their declaration of candidacy.
The special election to fill the two at-large positions is set for Nov. 18, and voting will take place at the First Baptist Church in Medicine Park. The winning candidates will each serve four-year terms on the board.
The board currently consists ofTrustee Rich Amadon, Mayor John Branch and Trustee Tracy Owen.
The trustees originally considered appointing people to fill the vacancies on the board but decided to call for a special election instead, said Town Clerk KaLee McMahan.
“The board is very much for that being a vote of the people so that they can have some say-so,” she said. “That’s why we’re doing this.” Planning and Preservation Commission The town also needs people who are interested in serving on the Planning and Preservation Commission, which oversees projects that directly affect Medicine Park and its historic preservation. The commission works with the Medicine Park Economic Development Authority, the Board of Adjusters and the Board of Trustees.
There are two openings on the PPC, which are appointed rather than elected positions.
People who want to join the PPC should contact McMahan at (580) 529-2825 or email mptownhall@medicinepark.com.
