Public Service Co. of Oklahoma announced Friday the start of construction on the South Chickasha Transmission Improvements Project. The estimated $11 million investment involves rebuilding about 5 miles of 138-kilovolt electric transmission line in the Chickasha area.
PSO field activities will include surveying for underground utilities. Construction is expected to conclude by the end of the y ear, barring weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances.
During construction, Chickasha residents should expect intermittent lane closures at locations where poles are being replaced in roadside areas, including along Country Club Road between Sooner and Norge roads. Signage and flaggers will be present to help guide traffic.
The transmission line connects PSO’s Cornville Substation off North 2862 Road in east Chickasha to the Norge Road Substation southwest of town.
“This project is about strengthening reliability for PSO customers in the area,” PSO External Affairs Manager Michael Hixson said. “It represents our continued investment in a reliable and more resilient electricity system.”
The improvements are part of PSO’s broader effort to reinforce the grid in western Oklahoma, enhance weather resiliency and meet growing demand.
“Oklahomans are familiar with the damaging nature of severe storms,” Hixson said. “Replacing aging wooden poles with modern steel poles helps the system withstand high winds and reduces the chance of widespread community outages.”
