Snyder to seek bids for street work

SNYDER – The city of Snyder is looking for contractors interested in repaving several streets.

The Snyder City Council voted 3-0 Monday to put the project out for bidding. Mayor Rodney Bartlett was absent.

The city will receive sealed bids until 4:59 p.m. April 20 in the city clerk’s office for repaving the following streets:

•Seventh Street from A Street east to J Street, running 10 blocks.

•J Street from Ninth Street south to 13th Street, running three blocks.

•14th Street from A Street east to E Street, running five blocks.

•16th Street from C Street east to E Street, running three blocks.

•West 12th Street westward, running four blocks.

•The Millirons cul-de-sac southward, running one block.

•The Lee Drive cul-de-sac southward, running one block.

Contractors should provide the bid amount per block cost, as well as the total for all blocks, according to the city’s notice to bidders. Bids will be opened at 5 p.m. April 20 at City Hall.

The council has earmarked $400,000 in its budget for the project, said Town Clerk Penny Ray.

Councilman Allen Ford thought the city should ask contractors to include perblock costs in their bids, he said.

“My only request — and I mentioned this to Penny a while ago — was if we could get them to bid it per block in case bids come in so high we need to trim it down,” he said. “We can pick how many blocks we want to do.”
