From staff reports The filing period for candidates seeking a seat on four Kiowa County school boards began Dec. 2 and will run through Dec. 4, according to a news release from the Kiowa County Election Board.
People who want to file for a school board position must submit a declaration of candidacy between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 3 and 4 at the e lection board office, 215 N. Lincoln in Hobart. Candidate filing packets are available on the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website, https://oklahoma.
gov/elections/ovp. html and at the Kiow a County election board office.
Along with their declaration, candidates must submit a voter registration verification form. The forms can be obtained from the local e lection board office or through the OK Voter Portal on the state election board’s website. The information on the verification form must match the information on the declaration of candidacy.
Candidacy challenges must be f iled no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 6 and may be f iled only by another candidate for that position, said Kiowa County Election Board Secretary Terri Meinert. Challenges against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the county election board.
If several candidates file for the same position, a primary election will take place Feb. 11, 2025. I f one candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, that person will win the position.
If none of the ca ndidates capture more than 50% of the v otes, the top two candidates will compete for the seat in the A pril 1, 2025, general election. If only two candidates file for the same position, those candidates will appear on the April ballot.
Declarations of candidacy will be accepted for the following positions:
• Hobart School District: Office No. 5 for a five-year term.
• Lone Wolf School District: Office No. 5 for a f ive-year term.
• Mountain View-Gotebo School District: Office No. 5 for a f ive-year term.
• Snyder School District: Office No. 2 for a four-year term.
• Snyder School District: Office No. 3 for a four-year term.
