There are many elements necessary to ensure an effective and productive legislature – diversity in thought, approaches, backgrounds, education and experiences are just a few.

State Senator Paul Scott brings a unique perspective in representing the constituents of District 43. Not only does the Senator have 28 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, he is a successful small business owner, community and church leader, and grew up farming and ranching in Cyril. Elected in 2016, Scott has been an active member of the Senate in his first two terms and there is no reason to believe that we will not continue to represent the best interest of the voters with same passion he has exhibited thus far.

Sen. Scott was an early supporter of raising the gross production tax, which made possible the teacher pay raises a few years ago. As a former member of the Duncan Public Schools Foundation Board, he also has the intimate knowledge of the plight of our teachers and administrators.

Sen. Scott will fight to ensure that Oklahoma’s students, teachers and administrators are properly supported in the Senate and that education decisions remain on a local level – especially in the rural areas across District 43.

He is a supporter of the foster care system and one of his recent bills extended an income tax deduction to foster parents. Sen. Scott proved his worth with Oklahoma ranchers through the successful enactment of the Oklahoma Meat Consumer Protection Act, which he sponsored, signed in May 2020.

In the Republican primary, Sen. Scott was just 14 votes shy of having the necessary majority to advance to the general election. Considering the district has not been competitive for Democrats since redistricting in 2011, this election will likely be decided in the primary runoff.

A self-proclaimed “straight shooter,” Sen. Scott believes in traditional Christian American values. He believes vehemently in defending our Second Amendment rights and continues to author bills each session to protect those rights. Sen. Scott has an A rating with the NRA and their official endorsement in this election.

Sen. Scott is working for Oklahomans and especially for District 43. The Southwest Ledger proudly joins U.S. Senator James Lankford in endorsing Paul Scott, a person of integrity and a strong conservative. Let’s allow him to continue the great work and represent the district in the 58th Legislature.
