Taking issue with those who seek to divide us

Mr. Navejas, you keep alleging Southwest Ledger’s articles written about you and your cohorts are “fake news,” but do you understand the expression?

President Trump made the moniker popular as a way to challenge credibility of select media outlets. The phrase gained momentum as more and more people jumped on the bandwagon as to which stories they themselves wish to discredit.

Mr. Navejas, you are not the Commander-in-Chief, neither do you possess a divine gift of discernment to decide what is or isn’t “fake news.”

If these reports aimed against you and your group are false, what, pray tell, have you done to set the record straight? Though Southwest Ledger has offered you numerous opportunities to defend yourself, you have declined interviews. You have been offered a chance to write an op-ed and have it published in its entirety.

Again, no reply.

It appears as though your only reactions involve hiding behind your keyboard throwing out stale, played-out terms and posting cheesy GIFs on social media like a mischievous schoolboy.

Can you not formulate an argument on your own? If so, that’s a shame considering the leadership roles you have assumed. One should expect a higher level of maturity from the chairman of Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District, who also is the founder of a church and calls himself pastor and apostle.

Most recently, Southwest Ledger reported your group’s confrontation against an elected official who is one of your fellow Republicans. That dispute hasn’t set well with many. But perhaps disturbing the state GOP’s mission was, and is, your intent.

Mr. Navejas, to refresh your mind as well as bring readers up to speed, do you recall when you and several of your 1212 Mockingbird comrades drove approximately 200 miles – outside your district – to the Haskell County Republican Party meeting to surround and provoke incumbent Sen. Larry Boggs (R-Wilburton), a 73-year-old pro-life, pro-gun Vietnam veteran who co-founded a sanctuary for American bald eagles, because he does not pass your litmus test?

Did you not then seek to file charges against Sen. Boggs at said meeting because he asked you to ‘step outside and square up?’ Probably not. Perhaps it was all just a big misunderstanding.

And, perhaps, the law enforcement officer who responded to the call and the district attorney who reviewed your complaint and then dismissed the incident as a heated exchanging of ideas between parties who were merely exercising their First Amendment right were mistaken as well.

It is perfectly fine to be passionate about polarizing issues. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be involved in politics and/or religion. But processes have been put in place to ensure that everything is done correctly. With your adamant and unyielding approach to this religious/ political issue, you have managed to push away many fellow Republicans.

Mr. Navejas, your elected role as chairman for Oklahoma’s Congressional District 3 is to promote the welfare of the Republican Party within your respective district. You are allowing your stance on abortion make you and your followers appear unstable and desperate for attention.

Were the 1212 Mockingbird residents’ recent actions toward Sen. Boggs as well as other well-respected Republican officials, candidates and politicians promoted the well-being of CD 3? Is referring to Speaker of the House Charles McCall as joker and a RINO the most productive way to represent the Republican interests of CD 3?

Mr. Navejas, has the Ekklesia of Oklahoma tried to recruit and promote like-minded, anti-abortion Republicans to push the group’s agenda, and then publicly criticized those who do not follow the same beliefs as the group? Interestingly enough, most of the candidates you and your organization supported got ousted in the primaries. Perhaps the farther candidates distance themselves from you and your organization the better they will fare in the political arena.

Do you really wish to affect changes in policy, or do you wish to serve no purpose except to irritate others and make a name for yourselves?

Also, Mr. Navejas, a few of your followers have called for secession. Now, schools of thought may differ on whether secession is considered an act of treason, but, if memory serves, it is not favored by other members of the Union. It certainly didn’t seem to fare well in the 1860s.

As any 5th grade social studies textbook teaches, the U.S. Supreme Court is the judicial paramount in our country, the third branch of our government. They can review cases (e.g., Roe v. Wade, Texas v. White). While as an individual many of us don’t always agree with them we should respect the rule of law. Perhaps you should rebuke this secession nonsense and seek unity over division?

Mr. Navejas, as you’re reading this, one hopes you’ll understand that people do not like their political beliefs challenged, nor their relationship with the Almighty questioned. Ever.

But, this is America. Every citizen is entitled to his/her freedom of speech.

However, remember, Mr. Navejas, while the First Amendment is guaranteed to every citizen, what you chose to do with that sacred gift also comes accountability. How one responds to criticism during opposition is crucial.

When composing the U.S. Constitution, our Founding Fathers understood the need for the First Amendment. Those statesmen believed that free- dom of speech was one of the most sacred rights to have.

You, Mr. Navejas, are not acting like a statesman.

Please do not degrade the title that was bestowed upon our Founding Fathers, the Federalists, and other members who have served or are serving in our branches of government. Those men and women possess fortitude, couth and respect for others despite differences of opinion and personal vendettas.

And, Mr. Navejas, as to the issue of the 14 adults and 10 children living in your four-bedroom house, how that was not investigated by the state Election Board or the Logan County District Attorney should also raise an eyebrow.

Please, Mr. Chairman and self-proclaimed apostle, enlighten us as to what aspects of this so-called investigation are made up and are to be considered ‘fake news’?
