Deevers, Bush advance to Dec. 12 ballot

LAWTON – GOP candidate Dusty Deevers and his Democratic opponent Larry Bush Jr. will advance to December’s special general election to fill the District 32 seat in the Oklahoma Senate.

Lawton residents seek more details about Westwin refinery

LAWTON – Area residents flocked to McMahon Memorial Auditorium recently, armed with questions about Westwin Elements’ plans to build a nickel-and-cobalt refinery in Lawton. Westwin representatives fielded questions from the public during a town hall meeting Oct. 11 at the auditorium.

City chooses 10 roads for repaving

LAWTON – The city’s Streets and Bridges Council Committee recently approved a list of road projects for the Lawton City Council to consider. The projects on the list are all eligible for repaving using a process known as mill and overlay, but the list does not include any major road repairs.

State water plan due update; regional meeting in Lawton

LAWTON – A meeting focused on the 2025 update of Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Water Plan is scheduled for Dec. 11 in Lawton, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board announced. The meeting will be held at Cameron University, 2800 W.

New parks director is an Army veteran

LAWTON – The new director of the municipal Parks and Recreation Department is a U.S. Army veteran. Larry Parks was appointed by Interim City Manager John Ratliff to succeed Christine James, who became the City of Lawton’s internal auditor earlier this year.

Two jails interested in housing Comanche County inmates

LAWTON — Two out-of-town jails have sent proposed contracts for housing Comanche County inmates to the Comanche County Detention Center, but the contracts need to be revised before county officials can consider them, said CCDC Administrator William Hobbs.
