Captive insurance program growing

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Sooner States has become one of the fastest-growing domiciles for “captives” in the U.S. and now has more than 50 licensed captive insurance companies. Oklahoma added 11 new captive insurance companies in 2022, state Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready announced.

Investigation focuses on Asian crime ring; more than 800 marijuana farms shut down

OKLAHOMA CITY — An investigation focused on activities of an Asian organized-crime network has linked sex trafficking, prostitution and drug trafficking to multiple medical marijuana farms in Oklahoma, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs said.

States, feds cracking down on robocallers

OKLAHOMA CITY — The state Legislature and federal agencies are taking steps to disconnect obnoxious robocallers. Last year, the Oklahoma Legislature passed and Gov. Kevin Stitt signed House Bill 3168 by former state Rep. Logan Phillips, creating the Telephone Solicitation Act of 2022.

Restaurant not liable in death of drunken patron, courts rule

OKLAHOMA CITY — After consuming at least 17 alcoholic drinks over a seven-hour period at a restaurant in Weatherford, David Anthony “Carl” MeGee accepted a $200 bet from one or more of the waiters that he could not meet them at a bar in Oklahoma City by a designated time later that night.
