Comanche County Republicans set to meet Oct. 12

Comanche County Republicans will host their regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12. at the Fletcher Community Center, 504 Cole in Fletcher. Republicans countywide are encouraged to attend. On the business agenda are discussion and plans for a chili cook-off later this month.

Lawton lawyers rise to national prominence

What do Ferris Avenue, Gore Boulevard and Elmer Thomas Park all have in common? All three locations are named after men who began their political careers in Lawton as lawyers in 1901, when the Kiowa-Comanche-Apache (KCA) Reservation was opened for homesteaders.

An early look at whether Oklahoma could expand, shrink voting access

Earlier this year, Oklahoma became one of the few Republican-led states to expand, rather than restrict voting access.   In a move that will cost the state $40,000 per election, lawmakers passed House Bill 2663 with bipartisan support as they added an extra early-voting day for general elections.

LAWTON — Lawton Mayor Stan Booker won a three-way race for mayor Tuesday night, defeating challengers Sherene Williams and Palmer Moore Jr. Booker cruised to victory with 2,660 votes, or 63.08% of the total, according to unofficial election results. Williams came in second with 1,320 votes, or 31.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on a symbolic bill last week to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour by 2025. It was symbolic because it was clear from the beginning that the bill would not be heard in the Senate.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The American People Deserve More than Grandstanding

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on a symbolic bill last week to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour by 2025. It was symbolic because it was clear from the beginning that the bill would not be heard in the Senate.  Proponents claimed it would lift millions out of poverty.
