Crop report: Small grains mostly unchanged, row crops mixed

Rainfall averaged 0.70 of an inch across Oklahoma for the week of Nov. 23-29, with the southeast district recording the highest totals at 1.27 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 57% abnormally dry to severe drought, up three points from the previous week, according to the Nov. 24 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 25% of the state fell in the moderate to extreme drought category, up 22% from the previous week.

Statewide, temperatures averaged in the mid-40s. Here’s how crops fared the week of Nov. 23-29, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service: Small grains: Emerged winter wheat reached 95%, unchanged from the previous year and unchanged from normal. 

Emerged canola reached 95%, up 28 points from the previous year and up four points from normal. Planted oats reached 70%, unchanged from the previous year but up two points from normal. Emerged oats reached 52%, up six points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Row crops: Harvested sorghum reached 95%, unchanged from the previous year but up one point from normal. 

Harvested soybeans reached 85%, up four points from the previous year and up two points from normal.

Harvested peanuts reached 95%, down two points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Harvested cotton reached 79%, down one point from the previous year but up two points from normal.

Hay: The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 56%, up 56 points from the previous year and up 14 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 75%, down 11 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. The fourth cutting of other hay reached 50%, up one point from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 78% fair to poor. Livestock condition was rated at 94% good to fair.
