COLUMBUS, Ohio – American Electric Power Company’s earnings for the fourth quarter of 2021, prepared according to generally accepted accounting principles, totaled $539 million or $1.07 per share, the company said in a Feb. 24 press release. Those figures compared with GAAP earnings of $436 million, or 88 cents per share, in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Operating earnings for the fourth quarter of 2021 were $496 million, or 98 cents per share, compared with operating earnings of $433 million, or 87 cents per share in the fourth quarter of 2020. Operating earnings is a non-GAAP measure representing GAAP earnings but excluding special items.
Year-end 2021 GAAP earnings were $2.5 billion or $4.97 per share, compared with GAAP earnings of $2.2 billion or $4.44 per share for year-end 2020, the company announced.
Year-end 2021 operating earnings were $2.4 billion or $4.74 per share, compared with operating earnings of $2.2 billion or $4.44 per share for year-end 2020.
