LAWTON – Classic rock band America will be performing at the Apache Casino Hotel & Event Center stage on Saturday, Nov. 13.

“This is one of the greatest rock bands of all times,” said Lee Bayless, Event Center Manager at Apache Casino Hotel in Lawton.

“Even though we have had to reschedule this concert a couple of times, we can’t wait to get this show on our stage so our guests can enjoy this great show. The wait will be well worth it for those lucky enough to attend this concert.”

The original trio of Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek formed in the 1970 on an American Air Force Base in England and, riding the wave of soft-rock and singer-songwriter-styled music of artists like Bread, James Taylor and Carole King, America hit it big in 1972 with “I Need You,” “A Horse With No Name” and “Ventura Highway.”

Former Beatles producer and engineer – George Martin and Geoff Emerick, respectively – would guide America in the mid-1970s, helping the trio create chart-toppers including “Tin Man,” “Daisy Jane” and the George Harrison-influenced “Sister Golden Hair.”

America would continue to record into the 1980s, scoring a Top 10 hit in the autumn of 1982 with the earworm “You Can Do Magic.”

This was a few years after singer-guitarist-bassist Dan Peek left the group following his recommitment to his Christian faith. And while there were efforts for Peek to reunite with Bunnell and Beckley, he died in 2011 in Missouri.

Today, America the duo continues to travel extensively, playing concerts all over. They play Oklahoma on a fairly regular basis, although the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their touring schedule. This reporter caught America opening up for the brassy pop-rock band Chicago about a decade ago and America proved themselves the better act, with a more engaging stage presence.

Clearly, concertgoers will be witnessing what will likely be a stellar show, when America takes the stage at the Apache Casino Hotel on Saturday night.

As Bayless added: “Take a seat inside this Lawton venue and sing along to America's custom mix of melodic pop-rock and folk-jazz sounds.

Guests must be 21 years or older and have a valid ID to get in the venue. Tickets can be purchased at the Casino Cage or online at www.apachecasinohotel.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
