Arkansan convicted of armed bank robbery

Body

From staff reports OKLAHOMA CITY – A federal jury here convicted Brian Keith Mays of committing armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

A federal grand jury returned a two-count superseding indictment against Mays on Jan. 21. After a three-day trial that concluded March 13, a federal jury found the Arkansas man guilty of both counts.

Evidence presented at trial showed that on July 5, 2024, Mays brandished a pistol at the FNB Community Bank in Harrah and demanded money from the tellers. The tellers complied and Mays left the bank with $12,123.

FBI agents reviewed surveillance footage from the bank and an adjoining store, and saw Mays flee the scene. An eyewitness obtained the tag number of the getaway vehicle, and an investigation into that car led authorities to Mays.

Location data from Mays’ cell phone showed that he was in the area of the bank at the time of the robbery and visited a Walmart shortly after the robbery. While at Walmart, Mays transferred approximately $3,000 to a person in Arkansas and could be seen on surveillance video pulling a large amount of cash from his pocket to pay for an item.

At sentencing, Mays, 58, faces up to life in federal prison and fines of up to $500,000.

The bank robbery was investigated by the FBI’s Oklahoma City and Fort Smith field offices, the Harrah and Oklahoma City police departments, and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.
