LAWTON – The Lawton Athletic Foundation envisions providing supplemental funding to the three high schools in Lawton and to develop a scholarship program for Lawton athletes. Those plans received a boost recently with a $5,000 donation from the Arvest Foundation.

The donation was announced at Lawton Athletic Foundation’s annual Gridiron Golf Tournament on Monday. Arvest Bank’s Angela Spradlin, Sean Garibay, Austin Henderson and Seth Covey were on hand to present the check.

“We had a shortfall in revenue due to COVID-19,” said Barry Beauchamp, Lawton Athletic Foundation vice president in charge of development. “The Arvest Foundation embodies the saying ‘You never stand as tall as when you kneel to help a child.’ If you have a worthwhile cause to help others, the Arvest Foundation helps you accomplish that goal. It’s so generous of them to give back to the community, and we’re grateful.”

The funds will be dispersed to the high schools to provide safer equipment for football and to send teams to events and tournaments that they might not otherwise have been able to attend.

“The entire board believes in prioritizing safety for the athletes,” Beauchamp said. “Our hope with the events is to get them in front of the right people at the right time and help them get to the next level.”

“Arvest Bank and the Arvest Foundation are proud to support the Lawton Athletic Foundation’s mission to help our local high school athletic programs,” said David Madigan, president and chief executive officer of Arvest Bank Southwest Oklahoma. “The Foundation’s ability to help our programs and athletes is invaluable in these uncertain times.”

Arvest Bank, based in Arkansas, has branches in Lawton, Duncan and Walters.
