Bill protecting poultry growers from litigation heads to Senate

From staff reports OKLAHOMA CITY – House Bill 4118, which aims to protect poultry growers from litigation as the result of poultry litter application, so long as it is ha ndled under an Oklahoma Department of Agriculture approved nutrient management plan passed through the Oklahoma House

of Representative last week.

As long as poultry growers comply with an Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food, and Forestry-approved Nutrient Management Plan, that they will be protected from lawsuits. The approved plans have certain regulations in place meant to protect the environment.

HB 4118, proposed by Assistant Majority Whip David Hardin (R-Stilwell), was crafted in response to court case brought against poultry growers. On Feb. 19 the bill passed 68 to 28 and is now heading to the Senate where is it sponsored by Senator Brent Howard (R-Altus).
