LAWTON – Mayor Stan Booker is in a comfortable position in his bid for a third and final three-year term, a recent survey commissioned by Southwest Ledger indicates.

Results from the survey of Booker’s image were:

• Very favorable: 49.3%.

• Somewhat favorable: 19.7%.

• Heard of but no opinion: 5.6%.

• Somewhat unfavorable: 7%.

• Very unfavorable: 16.9%.

• Never heard of: 1.4%. Booker’s favorable to unfavorable ratio is 69% to 23.9%, a ratio of 2.8 to 1.

Survey results on Jacobi Crowley’s image were:

• Very favorable: 8.6%.

• Somewhat favorable: 9.9%.

• Heard of but no opinion: 23.5%.

• Somewhat unfavorable: 7.4%.

• Very unfavorable: 7.4%.

• Never heard of: 43.2%.

Crowley’s favorable to unfavorable ratio is 18.5% to 14.5%, a margin of 1.2 to 1.

Booker has four opponents this year: Cindy Lee Edgar, Ronald Ballew, Matina Michelle Davis, and Crowley. Nevertheless, the survey focused primarily on Booker and Crowley because of their name recognition: both have run for public office multiple times and both are public figures.

The survey was conducted June 28 through July 2 by the Classen Group polling company, and opinions were collected from 250 residents across Lawton who voted in the June statewide primary.

Respondents were first asked whom they expect to vote for on Election Day. The results: Booker 60.9%, Crowley 5.3%, Ballew 7.8%, Edgar 3.1%, Davis 0%, and undecided 17.6%.

Next the respondents were asked whom they would vote for if the election were held now. The results: Booker 78.9%, Crowley 7.3%, Ballew 9.8%, Edgar 4.1%, and Davis 0%.

The nonpartisan primary municipal election is scheduled for Aug. 27. A general election, if required, will be held on Nov. 5.

“Mayor Booker is very defined and well-liked in Lawton,” said Jake Parsons, managing partner of the Classen Group. “His favorable ratio is strong and none of the other candidates are well known.” Booker is “poised for a strong showing on Election Day,” Parsons said.
