LAWTON — Care Providers Oklahoma last week thanked Rep. Trey Caldwell, R-Faxon, for his leadership in advancing House Bill 2749, bipartisan legislation signed into law by Gov. Kevin Stitt that will support and incentivize intergenerational care programs in Oklahoma nursing homes.

Authored by Caldwell and Sen. Chuck Hall, HB 2749 passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives by a 74-13 vote and the Oklahoma Senate by a 34-10 vote.

Intergenerational care programs bring seniors and children together through shared activities, learning opportunities, and regular interaction — creating meaningful relationships that benefit both older adults and young people.

The new law directs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to seek federal approval for Medicaid reimbursement incentives for nursing facilities that engage in multigenerational activities connecting seniors and children through educational and community-based programs.

“Rep. Caldwell understands the value intergenerational programs bring to Oklahoma seniors, children, and families, and worked tirelessly to help move this bill across the finish line,” said Care Providers Oklahoma President and CEO Steven Buck. Research has shown intergenerational care programs can reduce isolation among seniors while also providing meaningful educational and emotional benefits for children.

Care Providers Oklahoma said the legislation represents an innovative approach to improving quality of life in long-term care settings while strengthening community connections across generations.

The organization also thanked Senator Hall, Governor Stitt, and the bipartisan coalition of lawmakers who supported the legislation throughout the process.
