LAWTON - Carey Monroe is no newcomer to higher education. Joining the Cameron University staff as Director of Events Management seems like a natural step in the CU alumna’s career.
She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Cameron University in 2008, and recently served as the Community Events Coordinator and graphic designer for Lawton’s City National Bank. Previously, she was Western Oklahoma State College’s Marketing Specialist, Graphic Artist and Head of Marketing and Public Relations.
“I have always enjoyed planning events and I loved working in higher education,” said Ms. Monroe. “When this position opened, I knew it would be an opportunity for me to do what I love in an environment where it would have an impact. Coming back to my alma mater was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
As Director of Events Management, Ms. Monroe will provide oversight and ensure policy and procedures are followed as they relate to events held at the university. She will be responsible for a wide range of duties encompassing event recruitment, planning and execution, management of facility use, budget and fiscal management, as well as support of event policies and processes.
“I have a talented and hard-working team that is teaching me the ropes and I am enjoying planning all of our upcoming holiday festivities,” she added. “I have big shoes to fill, but my predecessor just moved next door to be the Director of Alumni Relations, so she helps keep me on track, too.” Along with many other events, Ms. Monroe will oversee, she looks forward to the university’s annual tree lighting ceremonies. “Our biggest upcoming events are our tree lightings.
The Duncan campus’ tree lighting event will be on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6-8 p.m. Our Lawton tree lighting will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the McMahon Centennial Complex. We will have carriage rides, crafts, cookie decorating, snacks, photos with Ole Kim, and even a winter-themed virtual reality experience. The event is totally free and open to the community.”
“We are excited to have Carey join the Aggie Team,” says Albert Johnson, Jr., Vice President for University Advancement. “Her involvement with the community as well as unique talents with hosting events will enhance the experiences that our guests will benefit from when using our facilities.
“Carey’s excitement about joining Cameron and her proven skillset of managing events are true assets for the Events Management team and will result in the continued high standards that our customers are accustomed to receiving,” he said. “Cameron strives to provide a customer-oriented experience that is tailored to each unique client while also being affordable and accessible,” added Ms. Monroe. “I would be remiss not to remind everyone that if they are looking for a special place to have their next event to consider Cameron University.”
