LAWTON – Cameron University will host a series of events honoring active-duty and retired members of the U.S. armed forces on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The events will begin with a complimentary meal for active soldiers and veterans from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Shepler Cafeteria, located on the south side of campus along Elsie Hamm Drive.

The Comanche Battalion, Cameron’s Army ROTC unit, will post colors at 1 p.m. to mark the start of the university’s Veterans Day observance. The ceremony will be in Veterans Grove, located on the north side of Howell Hall and directly south of Gore Boulevard.

The ceremony is open to the public, and members of all branches of the armed forces are encouraged to attend. Masks will be required.

Following alumna Joy Christie’s performance of the national anthem, attendees will observe a moment of silence to honor veterans and active-duty servicemen and women. Cameron will again participate in the National Remembrance Roll Call with a reading of the names of those who have died since the last Veterans Day.

A Fort Sill representative will speak about the importance of Veterans Day, and Cameron student Joel Moncrief will play “Taps” to close the ceremony.

Staffers from Cameron’s career services department will offer a virtual opportunity, “Transition from Military to Civilian Careers,” via Zoomfrom1to3p.m.To receive a secure Zoom link, email hirecameronaggies@ cameron.edu.
