OKLAHOMA CITY — The National State Auditors Association (NSAA) gave top marks to the Oklahoma State Auditor & Inspector’s Office (SAI) headed by Cindy Byrd in its External Peer Review.
The review evaluates whether SAI’s system of quality control is designed to meet professional standards and is effectively complying with those standards.
Byrd assumed office Jan. 1, 2019, and her term ends Jan. 11, 2027. She is running to be the next State Treasurer. The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector “is responsible for auditing the financial accounts of all government agencies within Oklahoma. The State Auditor and Inspector also performs performance audits and special investigative audits upon request by certain state officials and upon petition by citizens,” according to the agency’s website.
SAI received the highest rating possible.
“Yes, even the Auditor’s Office gets audited,” Byrd said. “This review reflects the professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail that I expect from our entire staff. I am incredibly proud of our team and of the accountability this review represents. We hold ourselves to the same standards of transparency, oversight, and accountability that we expect from the agencies we examine. We will always safeguard taxpayer money with the same excellence that earned us this recognition.” To that end, SAI is launching a series of Boot Camps for Board Members across Oklahoma starting in October. Registration is open for any elected or appointed official, at any level of government, who wants to learn how to be a better steward of taxpayer dollars.
The boot camps are free to attend.
