From staff reports STILLWATER – Last May, collaborating with the Oklahoma State University Extension and the Noble Research Institute, the Cattlemen’s Conference successfully changed the seedstock industry with the creation of Cattlemen’s Conference: A Blueprint for the Future.
OSU Extension’s Beef Cattle Breeding Specialist Mark Johnson noted that last year’s success paved the way for part two of the conference.
“Out of all the topics we got into last year, we talked about land stewardship, and we were just coming out of a drought,” Johnson said. “A year ago in May, we were hoping we got back to normal rainfall, which fortunately we did. We were talking about late-day morbidity in feedlot cattle that was becoming an increasing problem. We had some of the foremost experts that had dealt with that, and we continue to move forward on that topic and learn more.”
Johnson noted other topics of the 2023 conference: integrity, ethics, marketing, genetic trends and beef cattle photography.
“Some really successful breeders and marketers that came and set in sat in on those panel discussions gave our audience the opportunity to react with those industry leaders and ask questions,” Johnson said.
The Cattlemen’s Conference is designed to improve the cattle industry and individual understanding. By focusing on proper cattle development, it provides a unique opportunity for attendees to absorb diverse perspectives from industry leaders.
