HOUSTON – The Houston-based utility company CenterPoint Energy has named Kenneth E. Coleman as its senior vice president and chief information officer.

Coleman, who joined CenterPoint after a stint as the president and CEO of the Birmingham (Alabama) Business Alliance, will lead CenterPoint’s information technology strategy, according to a CenterPoint press release. That assignment will include developing, maintaining and using the company’s computer systems, software and networks.

Coleman will report to Gregory Knight, executive vice president of customer transformation and business services.

“Kenny joins CenterPoint Energy’s leadership team with a proven track record of building and leading world-class technology management and product development organizations, with a focus on origination of new projects and strategic planning for growth,” Knight said. “Under Kenny’s leadership, we will continue to leverage technology, date and analytics to support enterprise-wide business goals and drive innovative solutions for improving the customer experience and the company’s business and workforce efficiency.”

Before joining CenterPoint, Coleman spent more than 20 years at Southern Co., the parent company of several utilities and subsidiaries. He held several jobs of increasing responsibility at Southern, including a stint as the company’s senior vice president and CIO, where he led company-wide information technology.

Coleman’s role at the Birmingham Business Alliance included developing collaborations between BBA and its community partners, with the goal of leading economic growth for the seven-county Birmingham region.
