OKLAHOMA CITY – CenterPoint Energy, the natural gas utility that serves approximately 100,000 residential and business customers in Oklahoma, continues to suspend disconnections of natural gas service for non-payment during the coronavirus crisis.

The assistance will help thousands of struggling residents who have lost their jobs or have had their pay cut because of the economic fallout of the pandemic, said Ross Corson, senior communications specialist.

Cities and towns in southwest Oklahoma that are served by CenterPoint include Altus, Apache, Arapaho,
Blair, Burns Flat, Chickasha, Comanche, Duke, Duncan, Elgin, Fletcher, Lawton, Mangum, Marlow, Martha, Ninnekah, Olustee, Pocasset, Sterling, and Temple.

CenterPoint Energy continues to work with customers who may need payment assistance, arrangements or extensions during this health crisis, Corson said.

Customers can discuss payment options by calling 866-275-5265.

There have been reports of scams that seek to exploit the Coronavirus outbreak, so customers are reminded that CenterPoint Energy would never call and demand payment over the phone or by prepaid debit card to avoid disconnection, Corson said.

CenterPoint Energy’s natural-gas crews will continue to provide service by responding to calls and completing work orders. A number of pipeline replacement projects are ongoing and the disruption to customers during these times will be minimal, Corson said. “If you see CenterPoint Energy employees or contractors performing work, please practice safe social distancing and avoid approaching them.”

As Oklahomans spend more time at home, energy consumption may increase beyond normal usage, the company cautions. To assist in reducing consumption, CenterPoint Energy encourages customers to take advantage of energy efficiency tools and resources.
