ELGIN – In other business on Oct. 7, the Elgin City Council:
• Postponed awarding the contract for constructing a new streets/public works building, because the city is still working to secure financing for the project.
Mayor JJ Francais asked the council to table the contract until the council’s November meeting, giving him more time to line up funding for the project, which is expected to cost roughly $1.6 million.
“We have a rough path to financing,” he said. “But now that we have a hard number, we need to tell the bankers, ‘Hey, we’re ready. Let’s roll.’” The council has 30 days from the day bids were opened to award the contract unless the board decides to extend the deadline. Bids were opened Oct. 6, meaning the council must act by Nov. 6.
The council will consider the bids again at a special meeting, set for Nov. 5.
• Approved an estimate from the Norman-based company Rigid 911, which has offered to sell the city a truck bed for a 2025 Ford F550 fire truck for $72,957.54. The funds will come out of the city’s capital improvement program savings account.
