LAWTON — The Comanche County Board of Commissioners finalized two American Rescue Plan Act grants at the board’s May 22 meeting.

With little discussion, the commissioners approved notices of award and subrecipient award agreements for Rural Water District 5 and the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma.

RWD 5 will receive a $52,000 grant to buy and install equipment for the district’s wastewater system, according to the agenda. The $2,500 grant for the Parkinson Foundation will support the Rock Steady Boxing Program, an exercise program designed for people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers.

A federal relief package, the American Rescue Plan Act provided financial aid for local governments coping with the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. Comanche County received about $23 million from Oklahoma’s pot of ARPA money and is using some of those dollars to support various projects, including the wastewater equipment for RWD 5 and the Rock Steady Boxing Program for Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma.
