CHICKASHA — A contract of nearly half a million dollars was awarded recently to rehabilitate the paved runway at Chickasha Municipal Airport.

Tri-City Seal Co. of Tuttle will be paid $465,899 to renovate Runway 18/36 and taxiways at the airport northwest of Chickasha. Tri-City edged Nash Construction Co. of Oklahoma City by $463.71 to capture the contract.

Parkhill, of Oklahoma City, received an $87,100 contract in February from the Chickasha Municipal Airport Authority to provide engineering design services for rehab of the runway and the parallel taxiway. The repair project will consist of joint sealant, sealing cracks, concrete patching and full replacement of isolated deteriorated panels that exhibit spalling.

The CMAA agreed on June 20 to pay Parkhill $66,750 to provide “construction administration services” during the rehab project, which is expected to span 45 working days.

The state Aeronautics Commission will pay 95% of the project cost and the Municipal Airport Authority will be responsible for the other 5%, records show.

The concrete runway is 5,100 feet long and 100 feet wide, Aeronautics Commission records show. The runway and taxiway were last overhauled 10 years ago, commission records reflect.

Chickasha Municipal Airport is classified as a regional business facility where more than two dozen airplanes and two helicopters are based. Most recently 4,000 takeoffs and landings were logged at the airport during a 12-month period, Aeronautics Commission records indicate.

Every year an estimated 440,000 visitors arrive in Oklahoma on general aviation aircraft, and approximately 2,425 of them arrive via Chickasha Municipal Airport, the Aeronautics Commission reports.
