LAWTON – The Town of Faxon will receive a $100,000 grant from Comanche County for upgrades to the municipal water system.
With little discussion, the Comanche County Board of Commissioners approved on April 22 a notice of award and subrecipient award agreement with Faxon. The grant money will pay for replacing one-half mile of old water lines, updating meter setters and meters for all currently used meters, and replacing two fire hydrants.
The funds will come out of the county’s pot of American Rescue Plan Act dollars, part of a federal relief package designed to help local governments offset the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oklahoma received approximately $1.87 billion in ARPA funds, and Comanche County’s share of those dollars was about $23 million.
The county must finish allocating its ARPA money by the end of this year, and the funds must be spent by December 2026.
