Course aims to educate residents on city government

Lawton’s Citizens Academy program, which gives residents an up-close look at how government works, returns this year.

The free 14-week course will focus on educating residents, business owners and others on how the city’s daily operations contribute to building a better community, city officials said in a news release.

The Citizens Academy will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday from July 27 through Oct. 26. Unless otherwise noted or communicated, all classes will take place at Lawton City Hall, located at 212 SW Ninth Street.

Applications can be found on the city’s website and are due no later than July 10. Applications can be returned by email to publicaffairs@lawtonok.gov or by physical mail or in person to Lawton city manager’s office at 212 SW Ninth St., Lawton, OK 73501. Physical mail will need to be made attention to Communications and Marketing.
