LAWTON – The Covid-19 virus has spread to Comanche County.

At least three county residents have been confirmed as infected with the coronavirus.

Nicole Jolly, a spokesman for Comanche County Medical Center, confirmed two of the cases were identified through CCMH’s testing protocols. Jolly said one resident was identified through the drive-through facility, the other through the hospital.

A reliable source said the third county case was reported late Tuesday. However, the source could not identify the facility that confirmed the case.

Jolly said hospital officials didn’t get their coronavirus test results back until after the state health department’s reporting period deadline Tuesday. “Numbers will change tomorrow,” she said. “And we expect we will see more cases in the future.”

She said the hospital has allocated its fourth floor as a Covid-19 ward in an effort to protect the facility’s other patients. “We are trying to be proactive,” she said.

The three Comanche County cases increase the number of Oklahomans infected with the virus to 167. Wednesday morning, the Oklahoma State Department of Health said 164 residents had tested positive for the virus, while 805 had tested negative. Fifty-nine Oklahomans are hospitalized. Five Oklahomans have died from the Covid-19 virus.
