Because of the continued spread of COVID-19, the Comanche Nation Tribal Complex is closed through July 13.

Comanche Nation Chairman William Nelson announced the closure in

a statement published Wednesday by the tribe’s newspaper.

“The opening of America and the self-decision of Southwest Oklahomans not utilizing personal protective equipment, social distancing and avoidance of crowds has caused various spikes in our community and tribal operations,” he wrote.

While the complex is closed, all buildings will be sanitized, and all staff will be tested for the virus. Comanche Nation citizens will not be able to apply in-person for CARES Act assistance, but the application will remain available online through the tribe’s website.

The complex’s closure comes on the heels of the decision to close the tribe’s water park for the summer.

On June 24, officials with the Comanche Nation Tribal Administrators office made the announcement that the Comanche Nation Waterpark and Nations of Fun will not reopen this season in an effort to prevent further community spread.
