Rainfall totals averaged 1.59 inches across Oklahoma for the week of May 17 through 23, with the southeast district recording the highest total at 4.06 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 40% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down nine points from the previous week, according to the May 18 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 10% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, down six points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the high 60s. Topsoil moisture conditions and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week:

Small grains: Canola blooming reached 95%. Canola coloring reached 49%, up six points from the previous year but down eight points from normal.

Rye headed reached 95%, up five points from the previous year. Rye harvested reached 5%.

Oats jointing reached 80%, up one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Oats headed reached 49%, up eight points from the previous year and five points from normal.

Row crops: Corn planted reached 60%, down 18 points from the previous year and 16 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 55%, unchanged from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 21%, up six points from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 26% down 27 points from the previous year and 12 points from normal.

Peanuts planted reached 35%, up 16 points from the previous year but down 16 points from normal.

Cotton planted reached 24%, up 13 points from the previous year but down four points from normal.

Hay: The first cutting of alfalfa hay reached 22%, down seven points from the previous year and 23 points from normal. The first cutting of other hay reached 16%, down 17 points from the previous year and 13 points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 81% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 89% good to fair.
