Crop report: Drought conditions down slightly

Rainfall totals averaged 0.87 of an inch across Oklahoma for the week of April 19-25, with the southeast district recording the highest total at 1.93 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 51% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down two points from the previous week, according to the April 20th U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 22 % of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, down one point from the previous week.

Statewide, temperatures averaged in the low 50s. Topsoil moisture and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared between April 19 and 25:

Oats jointing reached 43%, down six points from the previous year and nine points from normal. Oats headed reached 4%.

Small grains: Winter wheat jointing reached 91%, down four points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Winter wheat headed reached 34%, down 13 points from the previous year and 12 points from normal.

Row crops: Corn planted reached 30%, up 13 points from the previous year but down two points from normal. Corn emerged reached 3%.

Canola blooming reached 64%, down 12 points from the previous year and 18 points from normal. Canola coloring reached 1%.

Rye jointing reached 93%, up four points from the previous year and three points from normal. Rye headed reached 37%, up nine points from the previous year and five points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 1%, down eight points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 4%, unchanged from the previous year and unchanged from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 76% fair to good. Livestock condition was rated at 89% good to fair.
