Crop report: Drought conditions lessen throughout state

Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 2.11 inches for the week of June 28 through July 4, with the central district recording the highest total at 3.12 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 16% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down eight points from the previous week, according to the June 29 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 2% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, down four points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the mid-70s. Topsoil moisture conditions and subsoil moisture condition were rated mostly adequate to surplus.

Here’s a look at how crops fared that week:

Small grains: Winter wheat harvested reached 90%, down nine points from the previous year and five points from normal.

Canola harvested reached 78%, up four points from the previous year but down 10 points from normal.

Rye harvested reached 68%, down one point from the previous year and 18 points from normal.

Oats harvested reached 48%, up 20 points from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Row crops: Cornsilk reached 24%, down four points from the previous year and 11 points from normal.

Sorghum planted reached 93%, down one point from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Sorghum headed reached 4%, unchanged from the previous year but down seven points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 69%, down 14 points from the previous year and 17 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 50%, down 21 points from the previous year and 22 points from normal.

Peanuts pegging reached 22%, unchanged from the previous year but down five points from normal.

Cotton planted reached 95%, unchanged from the previous year but down four points from normal. Cotton squaring reached 19%, unchanged from the previous year but down nine points from normal.

Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 63%, down five points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

The first cutting of other hay reached 86%, up four points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 6%, down five points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 82% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 85% good to fair.
