Crop report : Planted winter wheat reaches 69%

Six of Oklahoma’s nine districts reported highs over 90 degrees Sunday, with two districts reporting highs in the triple digits. The state had virtually no rain last week, averaging just 0.01 of an inch.

Drought conditions were rated 45% abnormally dry to severe drought, up 12 points from the previous week, according to the Oct. 6 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 22% of the state was in the moderate to extreme drought category, up four points from the previous week.

Here’s a look at how crops fared last week: 

Small grains:

Planted winter wheat reached 69%, up three points from last year and seven points from normal. Emerged winter wheat reached 39%, a six-point drop from the previous year but a four-point increase from normal.

Planted canola reached 2%, down two points from last year and 51 points from normal. Planted rye came in at 8%, unchanged from last year but down 48 points from normal. Planted oats reached 19%, up 18 points from last year but unchanged from normal.

Row crops:

Mature corn reached 95%, a one-point drop from the previous year and a one-point decrease from normal. Harvested corn came in at 62%, up six points from the previous year and unchanged from normal.

Mature sorghum reached 75%, down one point from the previous year and six points from normal. Harvested sorghum reached 41%, up 16 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 60%, up 19 points from the previous year and six points from normal. Harvested soybeans reached 20%, up 16 points from the previous year and six points from normal.

Mature peanuts reached 62%, up one point from the previous year but down four points from normal. Harvested peanuts reached 13%, down five points from the previous year and two points from normal. Cotton bolls opening reached 85%, down one point from the previous year but up three points from normal. Harvested cotton reached 9%, unchanged from the previous year but up two points from normal.

Hay:

The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95%, up 10 points from the previous year and six points from normal. The fifth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 22%, up 22 points from the previous year and 12 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 47%, unchanged from the previous year and from normal.

Pasture and livestock:

Pasture and range condition was rated at 67% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 90% good to fair.
