Crop report: Winter wheat down for week

Rainfall totals averaged 0.96 of an inch across Oklahoma for the week of April 12 through 18, with the east-central district recording the highest total at 1.55 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 53% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up three points from the previous week, according to the April 13 Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 23% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought category, up two points from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the low 50s. Topsoil moisture conditions and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared for the week of April 12-18:

Small grains: Winter wheat jointing reached 86%, down five points from the previous year but up one point from normal. Winter wheat headed reached 17%, down seven points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

Canola blooming reached 50%, down one point from the previous year and 18 points from normal.

Rye jointing reached 80%, down two points from the previous year and four points from normal. Rye headed reached 22%, up five points from the previous year and one point from normal.

Oats jointing reached 40%, down one point from the previous year and three points from normal.

Row crops: Corn planted reached 26%, up 16 points from the previous year and three points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 3%, unchanged from the previous year.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 80% fair to good. Livestock condition was rated at 90% good to fair.
