DUNCAN – Duncan City Council recently marked the start of Mayor Robert Armstrong’s second term and chose a new vice mayor.
Armstrong was sworn into office and signed the oath of office during a special meeting May 6 at the Duncan Police Complex. Following the swearing-in ceremony, the council elected Councilman Gene Brown as vice mayor for 202425.
Armstrong, who was first elected to the council in 2021, was unopposed in his bid for a second three-year term this year. He said his goals for his new term include continuing to improve the city’s infrastructure, supporting healthy economic development and listening to residents’ opinions about what the city should become.
“Great policies that promote what the citizens want,” he said.
Armstrong said like all Oklahoma cities, Duncan must rely on sales tax revenues to fund municipal operations. He said the council’s most difficult task is managing the city’s finances while ensuring the city has enough money to pay for infrastructure improvements.
“The financial challenges that we have, just by being limited to sales-tax revenue streams and use taxes, are the biggest challenge that we face,” Armstrong said.
