ALTUS — Eight Altus residents are seeking the Ward 4 city council vacancy after former councilman Dillon Feazel resigned.

Feazel left office because he moved into a different ward, Altus City Manager Gary Jones said. The Altus city charter requires a councilman to resign from their council seat if they move out of the ward they represent.

The winner will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends in April 2025.

The eight candidates are Brodie Butchee, Randy L. Kay II, Matthew Medlock, William Mickley, CJ Morris, Melissa Tuttle, Christina Wallace and Crystal M. Wilson. The special primary election is set for Nov. 8 and a special general election has been scheduled for Feb. 14, 2023, if needed.

The city charter requires a general election if more than two people files for office and none of the candidates receive a majority of the total vote in the primary election.

All candidates must be residents and registered voters of the city, be residents of Ward 4, be at least 25 years old and have been residents of Altus for at least one year preceding the election. In addition, candidates cannot hold any city position appointed by the city manager.
