Event to offer resources to youths who may be homeless

LAWTON – Community partners are bringing a new event to the community to offer residents ages 14 through 24 a fresh start.

Fresh Start Lawton will run from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Family Promise, 901 SW 17th St. The event will offer free resources for young people who might be experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Resources include showers, haircuts, clothing, food, first aid, bus passes, SoonerCare, SNAP benefits, housing applications, gift cards and more. All assistance is completely confidential. In addition to the free resources, a mobile unit will be on site, providing vaccinations (a guardian or parent is required to sign for anyone underage), Early Start, WIC program benefits for pregnant women or new mothers and SoonerCare applications for those over 18 years of age.

Cosponsors include Might Community Development and Resource Center, Family Promise, Youth and Family Affairs Committee, The Next Step and the Lawton Public Library.
