LAWTON – The terms for Lawton City Council members representing Wards 3, 4 and 5 will expire in January 2023.
Here’s some information for people who are considering running for one of those council seats:
- The filing period will take place June 13-15. Call the Comanche County Election Board at (580) 353-1880 for more filing information.
- Elected officials’ responsibilities are outlined in the city charter and include the following: Approving ordinances, resolutions and contracts. That includes but is not limited to property sales, acquisitions and leases, as well as major purchases of materials, equipment and services required by the city.
With the advice and assistance of the city manager, the council reviews proposals for community needs, initiates action for new programs and determines the city’s ability to provide financing for city activities.
- People who want to run for the Ward 3, 4 or 5 seats must live in those wards. Ward maps are available at www.lawtonok.gov.
- Election Day is Aug. 23. If necessary, a runoff election will take place Nov. 8.
