From staff reports MUSKOGEE –The former director of a foundation admitted embezzling from the nonprofit’s bank accounts for her personal use, and falsifying her federal tax return by underreporting income.
Roslyn Melodie Haile, 64, of Ardmore, was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for one count of bank fraud and one count of tax fraud, to be served concurrently, followed by three years of supervised release.
Eastern District U.S. Judge John F. Heil III ordered Haile to pay $549,048, which includes $428,271 in restitution to The MORE Foundation and $120,777 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
Haile pleaded guilty to the two charges in February 2023. She is required to report on May 1 to a designated U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable prison sentence.
According to investigators, from 2017 until mid-2021, while employed as executive director of The MORE Foundation, a nonprofit that provides continuing education scholarships to Carter County high school graduates, Haile embezzled more than over $428,271.26 from the foundation’s bank accounts for personal use.
During that time Haile embezzled funds through multiple means, including bank transfers to pay off her personal credit card, ATM withdrawals, and issuance of fraudulent payroll checks to herself.
