From staff reports Fort Sill will hold a public celebration to commemorate the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday on Friday, June 13, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. E vents will be free and open to the public.
Visitors will be treated to a combination of Army history and innovation, including live fire demonstrations of historic and current artillery systems, a drone swarm display, field and air defense artillery static displays, food trucks, and more.
“This event celebrates 250 years of the Army’s proud legacy while showcasing the modern capabilities of the Fires force,” said Maj. Gen. Phil Brooks, commanding general of the Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill. “We invite the public to join us on this historic day to honor our Soldiers, past and present.”
Highlights will include:
• Live fire of historic and modern artillery systems.
• Drone swarm demonstration.
• Static displays of f ield artillery and air defense artillery platforms.
• Food trucks and family- friendly attractions.
Additionally, the U.S. Army Field Artillery Museum will conduct tours, free and open to the public, on June 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on June 11 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The tours will focus on the Revolutionary War era and exhibitions with Revolutionary weapons, uniforms and equipment.
All visitors without a Department of Defense (DoD) ID card must obtain a visitor’s pass at the Fort Sill Visitor Control Center located outside Bentley Gate. You must have a REAL ID to obtain a visitor pass. Pre-registration through the Fort Sill access system is encouraged to reduce wait times.
After obtaining a visitor’s pass, guests will be directed to one of three designated shuttle locations: Welcome Center parking, Cannoneer Field parking, or Wilson Street parking.
Ground attendants at designated locations will assist with parking and direct guests to shuttle buses transporting them to the event site at Mow-Way. A valid government-issued photo ID is required.
The 52nd Street Gate will be closed to all personal vehicle traffic on June 13, to support shuttle bus operations. Visitors should plan to use alternate gates and follow posted signage or Fort Sill personnel guidance.
