HOBART – The Gen. Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum’s special exhibit, “Task Force Dagger,” is on display through Nov. 30.

The exhibit, which features the Horse Soldiers of Afghanistan, tells the story of the Joint Special Operations Task Force North, otherwise known as Task Force Dagger. Oct. 19 marks the date when the task force was inserted into Afghanistan.

After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, then-President George W. Bush asked Gen. Tommy Franks to lead America’s response to the attack. Task Force Dagger was one of the first joint special operations task forces to begin operations, along with the CIA’s Jawbreaker team.

Task Force Dagger played a key role in achieving victory in northern Afghanistan during the first phase of Operation Enduring Freedom. The exhibit highlights the task force members and their missions.

The exhibit includes nine storyboards that detail the operation’s plan, timeline and results. Artifacts include maps of Afghanistan with unit locations and timelines, photos and authentic tack.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.
