Hilliary Communications LLC recently acquired Prairieburg Telephone Co., a rural telephone company serving the residents of Prairieburg, Iowa. The purchase is pending customary regulatory approval.

Hilliary Communications’ experience and expertise in serving rural communities will better serve the needs of Prairieburg Telephone’s customers, the company said in a news release.

“Our family has been serving rural communities for more than 60 years,” said Douglas Hilliary, chairman of Hilliary’s board of directors. “We are pleased to add Prairieburg to the growing list of communities we serve.”

Prairieburg is a rural community in Linn County, Iowa, about 30 minutes outside Cedar Rapids. Prairieburg Telephone offers fiber-to-the-home internet, digital subscriber line internet and fixed wireless.

Hilliary Communications anticipates expanding its staff in southwest Oklahoma after the Prairieburg acquisition is finalized, said JJ Francais, director of special projects for the company.

“Once this transaction is granted approval by regulators, we expect to add at least two positions in our southwest Oklahoma offices,” he said.
