From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.49 inches between March 24 and 30, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The March 25 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 77% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 43 points from the previous year, according to the NASS. Additionally, 48% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, up 39 points from the previous year.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 60s. Topsoil moisture conditions were rated short to very short, and subsoil moisture conditions were rated short to adequate. There were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork.
Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared for the week of March 24-30: Small grains: Winter wheat jointing reached 35%, up eight points from the previous week but down two points from normal.
Rye jointing reached 20%, up 10 points from the previous week but down one point from normal.
Oats jointing reached 16%, up six points from the previous week but unchanged from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 63% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 82% good to fair.
