LAWTON – Lawton Area Transit System will celebrate its 20th anniversary and Try Transit Week 2022 the last week of April.
The celebration will begin April 25 with LATS’ “Moving and Grooving’’ event, city officials said in a news release. Bus operators will wear commemorative tie-dyed T-shirts, and LATS will hand out matching bracelets to the public.
The system will give free mini-LATS flashlights to the public on April 26 in keeping with the theme “Brighten up your day,” according to the news release.
LATS will host a 20th-anniversary celebration at 10 am. April 27 at the Lawton Farmers Market, 77 W. Fourth St. The event will honor people who have been part of the LATS team since it began, as well as those who continue to make it successful.
The system will give away free key chains during “Wearing a smile for every mile,” set for April 28. Then on April 29, the public can register to win a $100 gift card by scanning the QR code – a type of bar code that can be read with a QR code reader – on LATS buses. The code will also be on the LATS website and Facebook page.
April 30 is Customer Appreciation Day, with fun activities and food available from 11 am. until 3 pm. at Lawton’s downtown transfer center.
LATS opened to the public on April 27, 2002, according to the system’s website.
