LAWTON – The city of Lawton’s emergency communications department has begun using Telelanguage to better assist citizens with emergency calls.
Telelanguage allows the department’s telecommunicators to connect with an interpreter during an emergency call when needed, according to a news release from City Hall. The interpreter will be able to actively moderate emergency calls between the department’s telecommunicator and the citizen. Telelanguage currently supports over 240 languages.
“We’re honored to serve a diverse community,” Emergency Communications Director Jessica Carter said in the news release. “Now, Telelanguage will allow us to more efficiently serve all citizen,s no matter what language they speak. We have already utilized Telelanguage for a few emergency calls, and I am proud to say that the calls were a huge success in effective communication and getting the citizen the help they needed.”
