Lawton City Council votes to replace old water, sewer lines

Body

LAWTON – Contracts have been approved to replace several deteriorated water and sewer lines.

• The City Council awarded a $14,177,260 contract to Timco Blasting and Coatings of Bristow to replace approximately 37,000 linear feet (seven miles) of “high-maintenance” waterlines in Lawton.

Timco’s bid was a million dollars higher than the project engineer’s estimate but was lower than three other bids, the highest of which was $15.96 million.

The water mains are located north of Cache Road between 38th and 52nd streets, city records indicate. The old lines will be replaced with new 8-inch to 12-inch mains; the project also will include new water service lines and meters, records reflect.

After the city issues a work order, the contractor will have a full year for “substantial completion” of the project, and 395 calendar days for “final completion” of the job.

• The council awarded a $242,150 contract to Integrity Construction Services for replacement of approximately 1,800 linear feet of 8-inch-diameter sanitary sewer lines.

The Indiahoma company was the sole applicant for the job, but its bid was “responsive and responsible” and its price tag was $120,000 less than the engineer’s estimate, Public Utilities Director Rusty Whisenhunt said.

“Properties abutting lines are SW 1701 to SW 1827 between SW Monroe Avenue and SW Jefferson Avenue, and from SW 1230 to SW 1501 between SW New York Avenue and SW Pennsylvania Avenue,” city records reflect.

The work is to be completed within 120 consecutive calendar days, and the project will be financed from a 2021 community development block grant and one other account, records indicate.
