From staff reports LAWTON – Regroup, a texting service designed to foster stronger connections with Lawton citizens by sending text messages regarding various topics within the city, was launched recently.
Regroup offers citizens “a convenient and efficient way to stay informed about important updates, events, and announcements directly from the City of Lawton,” said Caitlin Gatlin, the city’s communications and marketing manager. The new service replaces TextMyGov, a software implemented in 2022.
The city acquired Regroup through Comanche County Lawton Emergency Management, Gatlin said. Sharing the same text messaging platform will allow Emergency Management to access more contacts, thus sharing emergency alerts that affect all of Comanche County, she said.
“We recognize the importance of staying connected with our community, and Regroup provides a user- friendly solution that empowers citizens to effortlessly learn about the happenings within the city,” Gatlin said. “By partnering with Comanche County Emergency Management, not only are we promoting unity, we also are promoting citizen safety through shared contacts that will receive impactful information from the city, as well as the county.”
To sign up for Regroup, citizens can simply text “Join Lawton” to 31002 to opt in and start receiving updates from the City of Lawton. This group will receive all notifications from the City of Lawton; however, residents can choose to sign up for specific topics.
For example, text “Join LawtonInfrastructure” to 31002 to opt in to receive notifications about water main breaks, traffic advisories, etc. Text “Join LawtonCityCouncil” to 31002 to opt in to receive news about Lawton City Council meetings. Text “Join LawtonEvents” to 31002 to receive notifications about upcoming events sponsored by the City of Lawton.
To receive alerts from Comanche County Lawton Emergency Management, text “Join ComancheCountyAlerts” to 31002.
